Monteverde Vacation and Travel Planner

Costa Rica is 1 of my personal favorite destinations - there is very much organic beauty crammed in this small country of 19,600 square miles. From the humble capital town of San Jose, centrally located in the center of the country at about 3.600 feet above sea level, everything is near at hand - the Caribbean as well as the Pacific Coast are less than ninety minutes away, the rich lowland rainforests of the Caribbean slope are aproximatelly seventy five minutes away and the cloud forests and the volcanoes of the main highlands are under one hour away. For a visitor who could afford to pay for just 7 8 times in Costa Rica, it is doable to enjoy a range of habitats as well as life zones in an incredibly short period of time.

The following 8 day/7 night itinerary would be ideal for such a traveler:

One night in San Jose - if you arrive during the day, you may possibly have time for a fast highlights tour of the city and several shopping Two nights within the Caribbean lowlands - a chance to examine the verdant rainforests of Costa Rica. Nature hikes, white water rafting, birdwatching etc.
Alternate: 2 nights in Tortuguero - well-established ecotourist destination put on the Northern Caribbean Coast. Wet coastal forests, very lush and green. Drive/take motorboat from San Jose/return by atmosphere. Important nesting area for each green and Leatherback turtles.
Two nights at Bosque de Paz - private nature reserve and also lodge at about 7,000 feet above montane rainforests, Cloud forests, and sea level, Secluded & quiet. Great for hiking and the natural world studies
Alternate: 2 nights in Monteverde - popular ecotourist destination plus mountain resort straddling the continental divide. Misty cloud forests, very lush as well as purple with views of Pacific Ocean. Somewhat commercial but there are many attractions in the region. Many lodges to select from. Great social scene.
2 evenings La Fortuna - Popular resort area, and site of Arenal Volcano, almost all active volcano in Costa Rica In case you can afford to stay 3 5 days longer, I would include an additional evening at Bosque de Paz as well as in San Jose as well as perhaps 2-3 evenings in Manuel Antonio, a popular resort spot with lush tropical landscapes and also superb shores on Costa Rica's Central Pacific Coast. Alternate - any number of resort areas located on the Nicoya Peninsula (Northern Costa Rica) - Ocotal, Playa Tamarindo, Playa Samara or even Nosara.
